Carbon credit · methane reduction
A carbon credit from methane reduction.
C-CARB.CH4
C-CARB.CH4 represents verified emission reductions achieved when organic waste — biowaste — is composted instead of landfilled, preventing methane from forming at the source.

How a credit gets here
From material to credit.
The credit begins with measured material and an auditable chain of custody. The methodology defines how that evidence becomes a verified climate result.
- 01
Track the material
MassIDs record the source, mass and public chain of custody for biowaste.
- 02
Treat the biowaste
An accredited facility composts the organic material instead of sending it to landfill.
- 03
Verify the reduction
The BOLD Carbon (CH₄) rules are applied to the evidence to calculate the emissions difference against the landfill baseline.
- 04
Record the result
A GasID records the verified result in metric tons of CO₂e reduced.
- 05
Issue the credit
C-CARB.CH4 is issued in the amount supported by the verified GasID.
Definition
A standardized unit of verified emission reductions, delivered through methane prevention.
Claim boundary
- 01
Credit
Defines the verified environmental unit.
- 02
Purchase
Transfers that unit to the buyer.
- 03
Registration
Permanently removes it from circulation and records its final use.
